Founded in 1997 by Thierry Gillier in Paris, France; the brand has always had a strong focus on streetwise aesthetics but having a range of several different moods in their clothes. We see a mix of softness and strength, audacity and non-chalence, masculinity and femininity. The name ‘Zadig and Voltaire’ comes from the philosophical novella ‘Zadig’ Their philosophy has always strove towards emphasising authenticity, warmth and a modern approach to luxury. So why and how have the French brand risen in popularity amongst 19-27 years old over the years? With having a combination of an edgy touch but also a soft and feminine to clothes makes them an interest to multiple different aesthetic lovers. With both a women and men’s range, one of Zadig and Voltaire’s best selling item between both genders is their perfum, This is Her and This is Him. With this being a popular item product with males and females, it draws more popularity to the brand, raising its customers.

With their common use of leather, silver and gold, it’s not hard to tell that Zadig and Voltaire get a large amount of their inspiration from the history of style of rock and roll, with possible style icons being Mick Jagger, David Bowie and John Bonham, (in my opinion done through research.) Another tone which we see a different source of inspiration from is their more calm and soft moods from contemporary art. The brand did actually sell coffee table style books they made whilst collaborating with contemporary artists along with some previous clothes collections.
