LITTLE BEA: THROUGH CLOTHES

When i was younger i loved bright clothes, beaded necklaces, bracelets with silly charms, those plastic rings you would get in magazines which would break after 2 days, sparkly makeup, bows and pink scrunchies, walking around in mamas different heels knowing i could easily break them with my tiny feet, skirts which came in a matching coloured set, UGGS, purple hair clips and so so much more. That’s how I expressed myself when i was little, now I’m 18 i do the same but with a completely different sense of style. I love wearing burgundy, silk dresses, kitten pointed heels, vintage purses, ballet pumps, dirty beige trench coats found in the local charity shop, denim on denim (controversial i know), all black outfits which hug the figure, turtlenecks with warm colours and the softest material, a deep shade of red lipstick which always stains my wine glass, giant fur coats matched with big thick sunglasses to cover the constant eye-bags.

My love for fashion has always been there since young, its developed for sure, but my passion for wearing outfits which make me feel like BEA has always stayed with me. This article will be different but something which I’ve always wanted to write about. Thanks to my beloved grandmother and mother, they always made sure to dress me in the most stylish and coolest clothes. I travelled a lot when i was young living in places like The Netherlands, Russia, Norway and obviously London, meaning they bought my clothes from all around the world. As you’ll see i never wore one item of clothing more than once (ok, maybe i wore some footwear more than once) and how diverse all my clothes were. They made sure i looked different and stood out from the other kids, but in a stylish way, making me look elegant, fashionable but comfortable.
Both my mother and grandmother also had fresh style which you’ll see in the pictures below. My mother was probably my first fashion inspiration, making sure she always looked classy but chic, which are the 2 perfect words to describe my style now. I wanted to write this article because when you think of something which you’re really passionate about, you think ‘when did i start liking this, why did i start and who did i start liking it from?’. I’m not good at many things and I don’t really have many hobbies, but fashion and styling is something i'd like to say has stuck with me since i was very young (which hopefully has made me develop a good taste in style now) i love reading and learning about it, and i work towards becoming someone memorable in the fashion industry. This article is maybe something to get to know me more even though I probably have like 5 readers in this moment in time, so enjoy and keep going at whatever you love.
JEANS
As the year was around 2010-2012, flared and slim fit jeans were in. My favourite trend back in those days was definitely flared jeans with colourful embroidery, it gave a girlish and playful look to an outfit.
DRESSES
I loved and still love wearing dresses, the different patterns, shapes, lengths and designs. In the Netherlands it could get really hot so i was always wearing bright little summer dresses which even looking back now makes me wish i could re-wear them.
SKIRTS
From maxi denim to mini summery skirts, my outfits were paired with frilly button up blouses or bright t-shirts. One technique which my grandmother did which i still use today was paring a detailed, beautiful skirt with a plain white t-shirt to make the skirt itself stand out.
COATS
Nowadays I have the same 3 coats on rotation, depending on the occasion, but younger me had all different types of coats and they all managed to fit a certain aesthetic my grandmother had decided that day to put me in. She loved smart, long coats which had sometimes had a turtleneck fit which i particularly love.
SUMMER
My summer outfits are definitely a favourite of mine, they consisted of bright colours and shades matched with little shorts and skirts. My footwear in the summer was the one season where it was quite diverse, with sandals, sneakers and flats. I love these outfits because they had a mixture of feminine and girly but tomboyish at the same time.
AUTUMN
With a switch from vibrant colours and playful designs, during the winter/ autumn period my clothes transitioned to more earthy, low shades and colours. One type of look I really admire was the shorts/skirt matched with tights and uggs, it's comfy but smart.
MAMA
Even now my mama has still got some of the best style ive seen but nothing will top her outfits back in the 2000/2010.
Sometimes its hard to find motivation, not just for your passion but for anything in life, but carry on doing it, don’t throw your love for whatever it is away. It’s worth it if its stuck as a passion for all these years. Whether its a sport, cooking, writing, directing or learning a new language, whatever it may be, don’t throw it away because of a moment in time where you feel like shit. To finish this ill give you a quote from one of my favourite poets and novelist Charles Bukowski:
“If you’re going to try, go all the way, otherwise don’t even start”
go all the way. it could mean not eating for 3-4 days. it could mean freezing on a park bench. it could mean jail, it could mean derision, mockery, isolation. isolation is the gift, all the others are a test of your endurance, of how much you really want to do it. So go for it, younger you would want you to carry on and pursue whatever it is you wanna do.
